Our Business

K9CARS has been a dream that is slowly unraveling and finding it's place. The profession is very new in the United States but growing fast. This business was conceived one day in massage therapy class in Virginia. A classmate introduced herself and mentioned that she massaged dogs. From that moment on the wheels have been rolling.

Where are the wheels going? The purpose of K9CARS is to provide an affordable health care alternative to our dogs. Surgery or euthenasia may not always be the best option for whatever reason, but you want to do something to make your dog feel better. Rehabilitation meets everybody's needs in the middle. It's affordable and you get quick results.

As Certified Canine Rehab Practitioners we know how to safely facilitate healing. We know when and how to progress a condition/injury. We have options for you at our finger tips too.  For example, have you ever considered applying a splint or a brace on your dog to support their injury? Therapists tend to be very creative and compassionate people who just want to "make you better". When you put a therapist with a dog whom you just can't help but love a tight healing environment gives birth and the rest is history.

Who We Are

Kim A. Novak - Founder/Owner K9CARS

Kim has quite a unique personality with a life story to support it. She has tried just about everything and has found her niche' here with rehabilitating dogs. K9 rehabilitation allows her the opportuntiy to congeal all of her experiences and education. "I have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. This is not work for me. It's a passion. I am finally living my own song".

Kim's biography: Kim grew up in Pennsylvania where she was quite an athlete with her twin sister Dawn. She is one of 4 amazing sisters and 2 brothers. She attended Slippery Rock University on a fast-pitch softball pitching scholarship. She earned a BS in Athletic Training. She moved around some and worked different jobs just living and learning. She became a Paramedic and Firefighter and worked at that for years. Kim was actually the first female firefighter for a military base in Virginia (Fort Pickett in 1996). She has been on ESPN for the National Firefighter Combat Challenge. Although she enjoyed Firefighing her heart wasn't fulfilled. Kim began focusing more on what she started in Slippery Rock and that's rehabilitation. She went back to school and attained another degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant and her Certification as a K9 Rehabilitation Practitioner. She's added her Weight Trainer Certifcation as well.

With all that said Kim knows she hasn't done it alone. She is a devoted Christain and a good friend. "Without God, family and friends I wouldn't be where I am today. I am so blessed".

Gene Runyan - Dog Behavioralist/Trainer

Gene is also a very creative dude. He loves music and has quite a depth to him. There's more to Gene then what meets the eye. You will find him very intriguing and funny. His personality is so attractive. He has a connection with dogs that is almost uncanny, like the dog whisperer.

Gene is a native of Pennsylvania. He is one of Kim's brothers. He is current working towards his certifications as a dog trainer/behavioralist which will be a great asset to the business. Clients often remark how happy they are with the rehabilitation of their dog but  complain about their other dogs at home asking "How do I get "Fluffy" to do this or stop doing that? Soon I will be able to refer those questions to the expert Gene.
